Earths loosing 300bn tonnes of ice/ year.

London : A satellite has detected that 300 billion tonnes of ice is being lost every year from the Antarctic and Greenland glaciers, dramatically increasing sea levels around the world.

Scientists from University of Bristol found that the rate at which sheets are loosing ice is increasing. Compared to the first few years of the mission, the ice sheets contribution to the rising sea levels have almost doubled.

The ice sheets covering Antarctica and Greenland contain about 99.5% of the Earth’s total glacier ice ; which would raise the sea level by 63 meters if it were to melt completely, which in itself is quite horrifying.
